Scams abound
Yesterday heard about this app, Kimi, that managed to sneak its way up the Apple iOS App Store top free entertainment apps. Masquerading as a vision testing app (the one where you would spot the difference between two images), it was a piracy app under the hood, streaming bootlegged movies. It was ranked above Netflix, Hulu and Prime, for the week, for free entertainment apps. Apple has now removed it.
But the real question is, How did this app make it to the top? Why didn't Apple's App Store review team catch it before approving it? According to the Verge who tested this app, you can clearly see the home screen littered with all the movies and shows ready for consumption. So whoever reviewed it at Apple didn't even open the app? Then what the point of the review process?
We keep hearing more and more such stories of apps breaching the regulations imposed by the Apple App Store policies. I sincerely hope enough measures are taken to prevent such blatant attempts in the future, else Apple App Store would soon deteriorate into this private garden overrun with weeds which will make it very difficult to clean up
