Wild Wild Vision

Happened to watch this video from Casey Neistat1 over the weekend, where he decides to take Apple Vision Pro for a spin across New York City. Personal and road safety concerns aside, this was pretty cool to watch. I can definitely imagine this being a common use case, once Apple sorts out the initial set of usability issues with v1 of this amazing product.

Some use cases that I could think of:

  • AR for the partially sighted : Augmenting the reality on the display by improving contrast, color so that they can better perceive the world around them.
  • AR turn-by-turn navigation : Rather than holding up your phone for AR directions, one could get this directly on the display. Couple this with on-screen arrows for directions and landmark markers with information, would greatly improve city walking navigation.
  • AR supermarkets : Imagine walking into a store and immediately getting the shopping list for the store on your display, along with on-screen navigation inside the store, to get to the nearest item on your list. And when you get to your product shelf, displaying the nutrition facts, price comparisons and any other important information like recall data directly on your display. Again no hands.
  • AR lookup : Run across someone on the street you might know and immediately get their information on the display. Pretty useful for people who are forgetful (like me). This will be very useful during a family event, where you may not recognize half the people you meet.

And many many more. Apple and developers will push the envelope of this product for sure.

  1. I am glad Casey was wearing a reflective shirt, so that people are aware of him. Safety first 🙂
